Pandora - From the Earth

Pandora was the first human woman in Greek myth, and therefore is the first sculpture in my series, 12 Women of Greek Mythology.

Pandora - From the Earth, is a representation from the moment Pandora came in to existence. Sculpted by Hephaestus from clay and water, she was originally worshipped as an Earth Goddess - Anesidora. Her name translates to 'All Giving', which may symbolize the giving nature of the earth.

Associated with this piece is a short story titled Saving Hope. This story is my reinterpretation of Pandora's Pithos myth from the perspective of Pandora herself. Saving Hope can be read on my 'Interpretations' page.

Pandora - From the earth, was sculpted unplugged (no power tools) from huon pine.
